Mystical Experiences

205. I have found – and this started several months ago when I first wrote you about doing this – that incorporating Yoga practices such as breath and mantram while walking has been a great practice for me. In hindsight, I can see I was quite stuck, and this practice has loosened this up. I feel it has invigorated and deepened my practice, thus quickening my intuition and clarifying my spiritual body.

While this practice never takes the place of japa, on busy days it can cover breathing, asans (if you do a few warm-up stretches), and puja. There is nothing like walking on a beautiful day with fresh air on your cheeks to be truly thankful for life at hand.

It’s not hard to conclude that this would be a wonderful practice for everyone as well as anyone feeling stuck and particularly advanced practitioners who need a boost. I always admired the stories of Rama walking 6 miles a day. Because of the positive changes I have undergone over the past year from walking and doing Yoga, I imagine he was doing quite a bit more than just walking.

206. Today during meditation in class, not only was it quiet and peaceful, there was a wonderful sweetness to the calm. I didn’t want it to end. It was as if the entity of that lovely feeling was going to get up and go away. I sat and thought, "No, please don’t go!" and right away I realized that this was aparigrapha – that I was grasping, trying to hold on to a feeling that I don’t own . . . and couldn’t own even if I tried. So I let go. And then realized I was incredibly happy, even though that sweet delicious meditation feeling was gone, something else was there that felt really really happy. And it had me wondering, was this Durga? If it were possible to know her, is this what she would feel like? And then I felt blessed, like she came to me and said hey, how are you? It was a darshan of sorts, only I didn’t "see" her, I felt her. Whatever if was, it sure was lovely, whatever it’s called. So I wanted to thank you for all the Yoga you’ve sent our way.
If you have an interesting experience and would like me to consider including it in this presentation, please write or e-mail.
