Mystical Experiences

207. I have been reading the Gita chapter about the gunas and remembering your recent class, and just sort of wondering about it all. The Gita talks about the joining of matter and spirit to give birth to everything including the body. Then the gunas being the ties that bind the soul to the body firmly. Maybe the soul is the unknown, hidden part, and the body is the known, fantasy creation you spoke of. The Gita speaks of observing the gunas and their attachments as the means to experiencing the unknown. Sort of sounds like the gunas are like lifelines that lead directly to the unknown. I wonder if the gunas are the attachment to these fantasies or known parts, or repetitive habits that keep the fantasy going. And when I find another one of these patterns, like the light switches, and observe and maybe even let it go, then I expose myself to the unknown part of me. Of course I could go back to my old habits where sattvic is the good stuff and tamas is baaad, and rajas is okay when I want something. But that sounds sort of religious, and boring and well, sort of a tamasic way of thinking (not that’s it’s bad or anything). This is so much fun.
